Wind Energy
Wind energy is the conversion of wind power into electricity, using wind turbines. Most wind power is generated in the form of electricity. Wind energy is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces fossil-fuel-derived electricity. Large scale wind farms are connected to electrical grids whilst individual turbines can provide electricity to isolated locations. Whilst the global use of wind energy is still relatively new and small, the potential wind provides as an alternative source of energy is very significant. Denmark currently gets 20% of its electricity from wind farms, and this figure is set to rise over the coming years. The other advantage presented by wind turbines is that in the absence of significant wind speeds, gas can also be used to propel the turbines to produce electricity.
